We believe it is crucial to offer a broad, balanced and immersive curriculum, rich in opportunities for each individual child. English, Mathematics and Science form the core subjects underpinning the curriculum in the Infants, with creativity and the Arts continuing to play an integral part in our children’s learning.

Children in our Infants benefit from a smaller class size, so they are able to receive more personal attention and differentiation, with teachers who know each of them well.

Children in our Infants make greater progress than they would in other settings and achieve significantly higher than national averages in standardised tests in both maths and English.

Before and after school care

Children in years 1 - 6 at Meoncross achieve significantly higher than national averages in standardised tests in both Maths and English.

A curriculum that encourages growth

Year 1 and Year 2 visit the beach and the wider local area as part of their curriculum. We feel that is so important for our children to experience the natural world at every opportunity.

Our children benefit from specialist teaching in a range of curriculum areas including Physical Education, Music and French. This ensures a continuity which is wonderful for both the physical and emotional wellbeing of our children.

Personal, Health and Social Education lessons place emphasis on how to form positive relationships with others, good manners, as well as how to stay safe, including E-Safety.

Our vision is simple, yet vitally important – we are committed to nurturing the academic, personal, social, and moral development of every child who attends our vibrant and caring school. All children are known to all staff, and this provides an evironment where children can feel safe and secure within their learning and are not scared to give things a go.

Helping our pupils develop their confidence, we seek to provide a family environment in which every young learner can achieve their full individual potential and in the process, create a lifelong love of learning.

Staff

Skilled and experienced teaching

All our primary teachers are highly skilled and experienced and provide pupils with a safe, secure and familiar learning environment on a daily basis. Classrooms are equipped with excellent learning resources and children also enjoy learning outside of four walls through our much-loved Beach School and Outdoor Learning lessons.

Children in Infants also benefit from additional subject specialist teaching during their weekly PE, French, Music & Singing, and Performing Arts provision, all of which are taught by our Upper School teachers and are outside of their normal classroom.

This enables them to learn in a subject specialist environment, thus further enriching not only their learning as well as familiarising them with the wider school surroundings. This includes our 6-acre Sports Ground, Performing Arts Studio, Music Room and all weather Astro Pitch.

Extra-curricular opportunities

Children in our Infants benefit from our varied and valuable opportunities through our Meoncross Activities Programme (MAP).

Our MAP is delivered in the two following ways:

A range of fun, exciting and interesting extra-curricular activities both at lunchtimes and after school every week.
In addition to these after school and lunchtime clubs, we run 'Passport' activities every Wednesday afternoon for Years 1 - 8. Here we provide enrichment activities that can be linked to a whole school focus or will be bespoke to our Infants learning, whether an art project based on the work of AA Milne, or appreciating a different country and culture.

Wraparound care

Before & After School

We offer Before and After School Club from 7.30am – 6.00pm during term time, and Holiday Club for all school holidays. Both are available for children aged 2.5 – 11 years and are provided by our partners, Creative Kidz Childcare Ltd, based at Meoncross School.

There is a selection of arts & crafts, games and toys for children to play with, and food is also available during both before and after school care. Creative Kidz Childcare Ltd is a privately run, family-owned, leading provider of out of school childcare and rated as ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted.
